The One Where I'm It Again
So.
I've been tagged to do a meme by someone much cooler than me, and because she is so much cooler than me, the laws of nature say I must obey. Even though it is SO HARD to come up with 10 songs. Just...keep in mind I'm a real loser when it comes to music.
Ten All Time Favorite Songs:(outside of the first three, these are in no particular order)
1. "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac. I love the lyrics (which are very bitchy and spiteful as it was written right after an awful breakup with a fellow bandmember who he had to see every day) and I love the passion that Lindsey Buckingham shows whenever he plays it.
2. "Back in Black" by AC/DC. Quite simply, no song has ever rocked harder.
3. "New York, New York" by Frank Sinatra. A song all about wanting to get out of a small town and move to New York City? That is also the theme song for my favorite team, the New York Yankees? My life, as sung by Frank Sinatra.
4. "In Your Eyes" by Peter Gabriel. My favorite love song (that I loved before I ever saw Say Anything...)
5. "Material Girl" by Madonna. I've liked Madonna since I was a wee lass due to a movie she did called Who's That Girl? (I liked the movie because it had a cougar in it, and I had a thing for big cats). But it was when I was about eight or nine years old and first saw this video and heard how catchy this song was, that it turned into a real obsession. Madonna remains one of my heroes to this day.
6. "Viva Las Vegas" by Elvis Presley. Like Fleetwood Mac, I love pretty much every song that The King has done. This one is my favorite because of the awesome beat and because I have a love of Vegas(even if I haven't been there yet).
7. "Guns of Brixton" by The Clash. I love how this song makes me feel, which, unfortunately (since I'm writing this), is one of those indescribable things that music has the ability to make you feel.
8. "Song 2" by Blur. It makes me feel so happy. Impossible for me not to listen to at full blast.
9. "Hallelujah" of which there are many versions, all of which I like. This song is great on it's own, but it seems to be used in every television show or movie that I like, from Shrek to The O.C., during a montage in which it is inevitable that all the characters are misreable, so every time I hear it I think of those scenes and it is therefore a very emotional song for me (don't be sad Shrek!!! Fiona loves you!!!)
10. "In My Life" by The Beatles. Makes me reflect on the good in my life.
Ten Current Favorite Songs: (I took this to mean 10 songs you are playing a lot currently, not recently released songs)
1. "Specialist" by Interpol. There is something about this song that drives me insane. Many an hour long drive to or from school has been spent listening to this song on repeat, and then listening to it for three more hours when I got home.
2. "Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money)" by The Pet Shop Boys. Super lame, I know (what year am I living in?). But this song is used as the theme song to a show I watch, and so I downloaded it because it got stuck in my head and I haven't been able to stop listening to it.
3. "Rebound" by Bino White. Heh. Bino White is the alter-ego of a (former,as his team was voted off last week) contestant on the show I mentioned above (which, I'll admit it, is Beauty and the Geek). His name is Joe and he has a blog you should really check out. On said blog, you will find links to his short movies (watch all of them, but be sure to watch The Interrogation and Joesexual) and to his music. Joe, a white boy from Minnesota, writes these raps that I thought he was doing as a joke at first but are actually amazing. Granted, I may be biased due to the fact that for the few minutes he graced my television screen I developed a massive crush on him that has grown each day. But that's a big maybe. "Rebound" is my favorite.
4) "I Predict a Riot" by Kaiser Chiefs. This songs rocks really hard. I also heart the bizarre lyrics: "Is not very pretty I tell thee." Heh. "Thee." (I am easily amused)
5)"Neighborhood #3 (Power Out)" by The Arcade Fire. The first time I heard the opening notes of this song, I was blown away. It is so so so good. So addictive too.
6)"Mr. Brightside" by The Killers. The lyrics are all about jealous longing of a man in love with someone else's lady, which I find hot for some reason. I also adore the video, as Brandon Flowers, the lead singer of the band, is the hottest man on the face of the earth and he wears a very flattering suit in the video. ...And so ends my teenybopper gushing over him.
7) "Fire Water Burn" by The Bloodhound Gang. Everyone around my age quotes this song ALL THE TIME (specifically, that line "the roof. the roof. the roof is on fire"), ya know, even though I don't remember anyone ever quoting it like a jackass when it first came out and I liked it and I asked people if they had heard it and I couldn't find a person that had but whatever, not the time for bitterness. I realized I hadn't heard it since like, fourth or fifth grade so I downloaded it and I'm being joyfully reminded of why I loved it back then.
8) "Seasons of Love" by the original Brodway cast of Rent. If years were measured by how many times this song has played in a loop in my head the last couple of days, I'd be older than God. I wouldn't call this a "favorite" song so much as a "song that I actually can't stand because it is so freakin' sappy but I was stupid enough to watch a trailer for the movie version of the play and haven't been able to get it out of my head since and it's driving me CRAZYGONUTSINSANEPLEASEMAKEITSTOP." You know how it goes.
9) "Across 110th Street" by Bobby Womack. I watched Jackie Brown for the first time recently, and as with every other Quentin Tarantino movie, I found a song I absolutely love. Pure 70's funk.
10) "The Way We Get By" by Spoon. I love this song. My theme for this summer.
There is lots of boring minutia of my life that I wish to share with all four and half of you that read this but I will have to write about it at a time that is not 1:45 in the morning.
